Scene 47: Next to the first sermon is shown the Buddha’s pari-nirvana, that is, his physical death. Below it, next to Kanthaka’s return, is the distribution of relics by two monks sitting near a stupa with some plates heaped with ashes before them (scene 48; Fig. 1r in Orientations).
